The Makita XCU14Z 18V LXT® Cordless 6″ Pruning Saw is acceptable for pruning limbs but not the greatest. However, the fact that it is convenient is worth the limitations it may have. Worth the cost.

Well made although the chain tightening system is a bit weird it works. On a full charged battery I was cutting branches for over an hour and it was fast and went through limbs up to 4” easily. Any bind will stop the power but once you get used to not pushing the saw it really worked great. The bar oil is much lighter than regular bar oil but I found a place to buy it cheaper. Glad I bought it and will come in very handy around the farm.

I got this to help my partner with some light yard work, as she has a medical condition that makes heavy shears and hard working hand sawing difficult.
I did not expect much from such a cute little saw.
It is amazing what I can actually cut through with ease! And it hardly drains the battery! A sharp blade I’m sure is a big contributor to its awesome performance, but a full day of yard work and brushing barely impacts the battery.
Perfect for brush clean up and so much more. Definitely great for camp as well.
Love this little monster.

Makita XCU14Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 6″ Pruning Saw
We own quite a few 18V Makita tools, so this was the only model I considered. We own a battery operated pole saw and a 14″ Makita regular sized chain saw, but both are impractical for close quarters pruning of limbs too large for a pruner. This little Makita can be operated with one hand or two. Really only two main things to keep in mind: keep your other hand away from the cutters and don’t let the bar get near rocks or anything hard. Works great. Nicely designed.

I had never used a chain saw before. It was quick to use and clean. Came with sharpening file which was easy to use. I sharpen hand tools like chisel handplane blades so no issue. Battery outlasts me using a 5 ah battery. Great little saw. Not an expert so others with more chainsaw experience may differ.

I have been using on property for about a month now clearing large branches and small trees. This saw is amazing cuts thru everything battery lasts pretty much all day. Easy to clean and sharpen. Self oiler is awesome, very lite weight and easy to handle for a 75 yr old.

I was very surprised with the usefulness of this small chainsaw. I’m glad I got the 6″ model and not anything larger. I used it to prune old trees and it hand no problem cutting through 4″-5″ branches. I brought my 14″ gas chainsaw to do the larger pieces but never used it. The small size and light weight makes easy work of chopping limbs into smaller pieces to go in the trash or wood bin. This is not going to cut a tree down – but it will do 90% of the work once the tree is down. Plus it is extremely efficient with the battery. I used it for 3 hours (off and on) and the battery level only went down one light. I highly recommend this for anyone debating on whether to use a bigger chainsaw vs. this one. This will do all your work with no complaints.

OK I’m seriously impressed with this little chain saw. Perfect for tree limb trimming, where it would be hard to hold and manuever a full size saw into tight spaces between branches up in a tree. I considered the 14″ Ego chain saw, since I have their other garden tools and batteries, but also have Makita 18v tools, and this 6″ saw turns out to be the perfect size for trimming our back yard fruit trees.
Best part I was able to use the same 18v battery from my Makita drill. Only 2.0ah, but was plenty of juice to take off 5 large 5-6″ branches from a pear tree, then cut the branches into smaller pieces for recycle and still have plenty battery left.
Definitely on my list for best power tool buys.
