I have used the hedge trimmer part only once since I received the item on January 12, 2024. I have not yet used the grass shear. The trimmer worked quite well. However, in my opinion, the tool has some operational deficiencies. Yes, it is lightweight as advertized but the battery removing lever and the lock switch can be improved. I thought that pulling downwards the battery removing lever at the top of the body and pulling out the battery would be an easy process. No, it was a big tussle. Then the “pull/push” lock switch is cumbersome. I would prefer a simple “on/off” switch. The most disappointing part of the package is the Instruction Manual. The diagrams are badly prepared and poorly labelled. Good Instruction Manuals start with legible diagrams of the items with the parts clearly labelled. The Instruction Manual for this Grass Shear/Hedge Trimmer does not even have such a diagram. Also, the language of the instructions lacks clarity in many parts of the manual. I think Amazon should instruct its suppliers that English is not the first language to hire English speakers to write the Instruction/Operation manuals.

I have several blue grama grasses in my front yard that need annual trimming before winter. The grass shear did the trick, and how! It effortlessly trimmed the blue grama in minutes. It was so much easier than before. I also used the hedge trimmer on some other bushes around the yard with good results. I have two comments: 1) When you buy this unit, also purchase a spare battery or two, as the battery will only last about 15-20 minutes on a full charge. This will save you frustration. 2) This unit is light duty, and as a hedge trimmer you’ll be limited to thin branches, let’s say 1/8″ or so in diameter. So, if you need a lightweight, easy to manuever unit with really sharp cutters, this unit is for you. Don’t buy it for heavy duty work, and don’t forget a spare battery. For me, this trimmer/shear works perfectly and totally exceeded my expectations!

So, here is the deal. The longer cutting blade does a decent job pruning limbs from shrubs but carry a hand pruner along as anything 1/2″ or thicker will get stuck. All my shrubs are under 2 years old but invaribly for any limbs older than new growth will get caught in the blades. A 1/2 inch is really quite small. Take a look at your pinky finger. The tip is going to be on the max side of what the 7 inch blade can cut. Most of your shrubs limbs older than 1 year will be this or bigger. So, it does a so-so job. However, the smaller size hand-held cutter makes climbing on a ladder to cut higher growth safer and easier. A full charge gives you about one hour of work time but since it is a smaller blade 7 inches versus 20 inches, it will take about twice as long. About 30-40 shrubs of an average height of 3-4 feet is approximately one charge. The grass cutter (shorter blade) is much better but beware of stones or bricks and go slower to avoid these as the cutter can be damaged if it abruptly hits stone. By damaged, I am not talking about bending the blade but causing it to jam backward into the mechanism holding it to the point it fails to work going forward. These work great for cutting tight areas that an edger or weed whacker can’t reach or an area that could be damaged by a weed whacker. With the Grass Cutter, you will have all the power you need. Now, here is the bad news. I received a product box that was previously sent to a customer and returned and then re-shipped to me. I could tell right off that it had been re-taped. I was not too concerned as I assumed the product had been checked BEFORE re-shipping it to me. WRONG. The Grass cutter blade would not work. Further bad news, because it contained a lithium battery, Amazon refused to provide a refund or a replacement because the product was defective and had a lithium battery. This is their POST return policy that you learn by chance when an item is defective with a lithium batter, despite Amazon saying in the listing that it was 100% refundable. To learn, “no refunds if defective” only AFTER buying and receiving it, is TERRIBLE customer service. Luckily, the mfg, MZK, had provided their card in the product box. I emailed them New Year’s weekend and they quickly responded by first appologizing and then offering either a full refund or a product replacement. THIS IS TREMENDOUS SERVICE!! (I went from being screwed to saved! This type of service bought my loyalty). Any product can arrive damaged or defective for any number of reasons but knowing that a company backs up their products with action is invaluable, and frankly, everything. As it turned out, my wife took a screw driver to the small cutter blade, took it apart and fixed it, to my amazement. As a result, I did not need a product replacement or refund, but the company MZK provides great service in the event you need them. Over all, I rate the product a “4”, only because the longer cutting blade in the hand cutter is a littler under powered to trim the shrubs as well as what I would have liked. However, for a small yard with younger shrubs, the convenience and manuverability of the hand-held hedge trimmer offsets the hand-held machine being somewhat underpowered. I recommend this product for smaller yards with younger shrubs where convenience and flexibility trumps power. Also, to save you a headache, pay attention to how the product is delivered to you. If the product seems like the box was previously opened and/or the product used, return it for a replacement or refund BEFORE trying it out. Better safe than sorry.

These are great for touching up my bushes after they have been initially trimmed. Not super powerful but work great for quick growthsprouts. Also really affordable.

The blades are impossible to switch. The directions are written in poor English. Once you get the instructions deciphered, it is impossible to change the blades. Perhaps my hands are too weak, but the blades certainly do NOT “rapidly and expediently” change. In fact, I have given up. I am going to have to find a neighbor who can do this for me. I’m really rather angry.
UPDATE: I got the grass clipper blade off by removing the 4 screws at the bottom of the unit. Putting the hedge trimmer on was a tad easier but I had to tap it with a hammer to get it to click in place.

It came mostly charged, so I only had to wait about 10 minutes to fully charge it after I unboxed it to start trimming our hedges.
It came out of the box sharp, oiled, and ready to go. I stumbled a little with switching out the blade attachment, but that was probably due to my lack of hand strength.
Do not use the grass blade attachment on anything other than very thin grass. I don’t know what type of rye grass grows in my lawn, but it made the grass blades jam.
The shrub blade attachment (shown in photo) was great for all of my 5 types of shrubs, which are: spruce, spirea, privet, boxwood, and purple leaf plum. It never jammed, even on the thicker stems of the privet shrub.
It only took me 35 minutes to trim all of these shrubs. The blades were still super sharp when I was finished. I cleaned the blades with rubbing alcohol and re-oiled them. It was so easy. The batteries stayed strong for the brief 35 minutes that I used it. I only trim my shrubs a few times each summer and haven’t needed to trim them again yet, so I’m not sure about the longevity of the tool, however I feel that it will last for at least a few years. Even if it doesn’t, it saved an hour of my life already.
I’m super happy with this tool.
